About THRACE
Erik Abjornson is the founder of Thrace Leadership and a former senior executive at the Central Intelligence Agency. His professional experience also includes service as a U.S. Marine Corps officer. Over more than three decades, he has led organizations through periods of crisis, transition, and sustained operational pressure, where sound judgment, trust, and accountability were essential to success.
Throughout his career, Erik has been responsible not only for delivering results, but for developing leaders capable of carrying responsibility well. He has worked with senior executives, management teams, and emerging leaders in environments shaped by rapid change, technological disruption, and high organizational and public stakes. These experiences reinforced a central conviction: strong organizations are built by leaders who can think clearly, act intentionally, and align people around shared purpose.
The name Thrace reflects this belief. It draws inspiration from the ancient Greek philosopher Protagoras, who lived in the region of Thrace and argued that people understand the world through the lens of their own experience. For Erik, this idea translates directly into leadership development: meaningful growth begins with self-awareness, clarity about values, and an honest understanding of one’s role and impact. Rather than imposing generic models or techniques, his work helps leaders build from who they are and the realities they face, developing clarity, consistency, and moral courage in how they lead.
From this foundation, leaders are better equipped to translate values into action, navigate complexity with confidence, and build cultures marked by trust, accountability, and learning. Through advisory partnerships, leadership formation programs, and executive briefings, Erik supports organizations in strengthening both individual capability and collective performance over time.
